1. Do your makeup under daylight. If you look good in daylight, you look good in any light!
2. Always apply glitter last to avoid the glitter mess and mix it with a glitter glue or mixing medium to avoid fall out.
3. Apply white nail polish after base coat and before colour for stronger colour on your nails
4. Use an eye base or white eye pencil as an eyeshadow base to intensify your colour
5. Don’t be a slave to trends, they never last. The cut crease is gorgeous, but don’t freak if you can’t master it. It’s not the only eye design and it will fade as a trend anyway. However, if you have mastered it, don’t worry, it will return. Fashion recycles
6. Always keep your makeup updated to your age. You don’t want to be doing the same thing as when you were 16 at age 40. It will age you.
7. Do NOT match your foundation anywhere on your body except on your face/neck, the jawline and top of the neckline is best. You don’t try on a pair of jeans on your arms, so why try your foundation colour on your hands, wrist, or arms? Your face colour may not be the same as other parts of your body.
8. Not everyone will suit the 50’s flick eyeliner that is so on trend right now. So, don’t stress if you can’t do it. You have so many other options.
9. Looking red eyed from lack of sleep or a big night? Line your inner water line with either a white or nude coloured eyeliner and voila! Instant bright eyes. Oh, and good eyedrops will help too.
10. Most guys I’ve met, tend to be more attracted to girls who don’t wear a lot of makeup, so it’s completely fine to feel comfortable in your own skin and keep the “mask” to a minimum.
11. Price does NOT equal quality in the makeup and beauty world, so if you can’t afford that $95 foundation that everyone on Instagram loves, don’t stress. It’s highly unlikely you will ever see a professional artist using that foundation either.
12. Yes, makeup does have expiry dates, especially liquid and cream products. If it smells different, separates, you’ve had it for years, or it just doesn’t feel right anymore. Could be time to replace it.
13. SPF is by far the single Best anti-ageing product on the market!!
14. Don’t colour in your brows for definition, instead it is far better to draw in little brow hairs for a much more natural look. Even if you want dramatic brows.
15. Decent brushes make life so much easier!! The brushes you need are; Foundation, Concealer, Powder/Bronzer, Blush, Flat Angled Eyeliner, Eyeshadow, Eyeshadow Blender and Lip brush. There are so many amazingly cheap and professional ranges out there.
16. If you are not sure, Keep it simple!!
17. Trying out a new look? Do your practice on a day/night where you do not have anywhere to be. Avoid the stress and pressure and do NOT try it out just before the event.
18. Pick one feature of your face you want to enhance the most. Do not go dramatic on multiple features, as it may look overdone and unbalanced.
19. Dehydration and Dry skin are NOT the same thing and cannot be fixed the same way. Dryness is lack of oils and needs more oil-based moisturisers and Dehydration is lack of water and you may need to drink more water, get out of air-conditioned environments, or change your diet/skin care. Oily skin Can get dehydrated too.
20. Vaseline is NOT a good moisturiser. It’s a barrier product that will stop moisture being absorbed into the skin. Use it over the top of a good moisturiser to lock in the moisture, but do not rely on it as the moisturiser.
21. Clean your makeup brushes regularly with shampoo and conditioner to avoid bacteria build up, which can cause, spread and worsen pimples and skin irritations
22. Look down into your mirror when applying mascara to avoid the dots of black on your brow bone.
23. Wearing on trend makeup will not make you cool or get you into the cool crowd. The cool crowd is the one with you in it anyway and trends age after time.
24. Good skin care will always help your makeup look better and last longer.
25. Just coz it’s good for your bestie, or your mum, doesn’t mean it’s good for you. We all have different skin and it will tell you if it doesn’t like something. Listen to it! If you are not sure, get a professional to have a look at your skin and give you quality. Professional advice, specific to your skin.
